군화를 사랑한 아디다스

| 독일군화를 재해석한 운동화 VS 로마 검투사의 신발에서 착안한 글래디에이터 |

무기보다 더 중요했던 전쟁도구 중 하나가 신발이다. 맨발로는 마라톤 언덕도, 워털루 평원도 달릴수 없었으니 말이다. 국가가 전쟁에 뛰어든 병사를 위해 끊임없이 신발을 제공해야 했던 이유다. 긴 승마용 장화를 선호했던 나폴레옹의 부대부터, 구두끈이 달린 군화를 지급했던 18세기 영국 부대까지 역사 속의 군화는 그 시대 상황을 가장 잘 반영한 ‘강한’ 신발 디자인의 여정을 보여준다.
전쟁의 무대는 바뀌었지만, 과거의 군화는 오늘날 패션 영역에서 여전히 뜨거운 오마주의 대상이 된다. 검은색 군용 부츠를 거의 그대로 베낀 발목까지 올라오는 투박한 워커뿐 아니라 디오르, 마르탱 마르지엘라 등 유명 디자이너들도 군화에서 상상력을 빌려와 ‘신상’을 내놓는다. 세계적 인 스포츠 브랜드 ‘아디다스’의 운동화는 더욱 흥미롭다. 실제 1970년대 후반부터 80년대까지 독일군에 군화 및 트레이닝 슈즈를 납품했던 노하우를 갖고 있어서다.
어떤 점이 군화와 닮았을까. 가수 비가 5집 ‘레이니즘’을 부르며 무대 위를 포효할 때 군화를 본뜬 아디다스 운동화를 신었다는 데 힌트가 있다. 비가 날렵하게 무대 위를 미끄러지고 카리스마 넘치는 발동작을 구를 때 신었던 운동화는 아디다스 ‘BW ARMY’(비더블유 아미). 첫눈엔 별 특색 없는 심플한 흰색 운동화일 뿐이지만 독일군이 신었던 트레이닝 슈즈를 재해석한 디자인이다. 이름에도 군대라는 단어가 들어갔지만 기능면에서 군화의 장점을 제대로 흡수한 것이 특징. 군용 부츠처럼 신발 내부에 패딩을 사용했고 레이저로 뚫은 구멍을 표현한 것도 군용 부츠에서 따왔다.
아디다스가 군화의 날렵한 디자인과 기능성을 그대로 빌려왔다면 재해석된 군화는 때로 과거의 이력을 정반대로 뒤바꿔놓는다. 독일 연방 경찰의 엘리트 대테러 특수부대인 GSG9에 납품했던 신발을 재해석한 최근의 한 운동화는 대테러라는 과거 역할이 던지는 위압감은커녕 스포티하고 발랄한 청춘을 상징한다. 척척 소리를 내며 모두 같은 방향으로 걷는 것, 이런 운동화를 신은 사람이라면 거부할 것 같다.
올여름 여성들에게 사랑받는 글래디에이터는 더욱 그렇다. 영화 <글래디에이터>나 <트로이>, <300>을 통해 고대 군인용 가죽샌들이 얼마나 전투적인 동시에 섹시할 수 있는가를 보았다면 오늘날의 글래디에이터는 중성적이면서도 세련된 형태로 여성들의 섹시미를 드러낸다. 아래 보이는 수제화 브랜드 ‘수콤마보니’의 글래디에이터에는 황금색 보석이 표면 전체를 채우고 있어 강렬한 여전사의 느낌을 준다. 아름다운 것과 강한 것, 보이는 살과 안 보이는 살갗이 묘하게 충돌하는 디자인이다.

남성 검투사의 발을 땅에 딱 붙게 중심을 잡아주었던 가죽샌들은 과거의 기능 대신 파격적이고 강렬한 이미지만을 여성용 샌들 디자인에 전수했다. 낮은 굽으로 땅바닥에 붙어있던 샌들은 ‘걸어다니는 조각’(walking sculpture)이라는 애칭이 붙을 만큼 10㎝ 이상 높은 굽을 가진 킬힐과 결합되면서 또 한번 파격적으로 변신했다. 글래디에이터는 강함과 아름다움을 동시에 보여주는 디자인이되, 신발 주인이 더 빨리 달리는 데에는 관심이 없어 보인다.

Solution to this question can be derived from that when singer Rain passionately performed Rainism choreography on the stage, he put on a pair of sneakers which are patterned on army shoes. Those shoes worn during his charismatic steps on the stage, are just 'BW ARMY’ made by Adidas. 'BW ARMY’ merely looks very simple at first sight, but this is what the company has reinterpreted and designed the product as German training shoes style. A word entitled army is not only included in its name, but also army shoes' good point is highlighted in function. Like army shoes, pads are used for the inside of it and holes are bored with a laser.

Fan Account – 27 July Global Fan Meeting
I will skip the prelude and go straight to the fan meeting itself. Kyunghee University was impressive. The
Hall of Peace where the fan meeting was held was very impressive. As we entered, it was like we are
entering a theatre, a cinema. On the centre stage was a large, wide screen, just like any cinema screen, with the words “2009 Global Fan Meeting. Rain’s Theater”. The
screens on the two sides of the hall were showing a fan made video,
capturing Rain at different stages, through his Fan Club days to the
various albums,
drama series, CF etc. It turned out the whole setting matched the theme of the evening – we were like
audience or participants of a movie premiere – premiere of the “Legend of Rainism”, with Rain sharing his
legend, his “ism”, his inner fear and joy, his wonderful performance, with his beloved clouds.
Our prince started with Fresh Woman. When Bad Boy tried to conquer Fresh Woman, he used all his
charm, not forgetting his very refreshing and signature “hip hip” moves. And our screams showed that we
were conquered once again.
He then introduced the MC, his old buddy Kim Jae Dong. When he walked Kim out to the front stage, he
put Kim’s arm around his, almost like a married couple. I
thought Kim was embarrassed when he withdrew his arm from Rain’s, but
it turned out that he was, once again, touching and admiring Rain’s hip - just to
excite us and make us jealous!
They then sat down at the centre of the stage and began the show. This time, overseas fans could enjoy
English subtitles on the screens! (It was actually simultaneous English translation. It was a difficult job, and
not everything Rain said was translated. But we managed to get the gist of it.)
I cannot remember the exact order of the topics. I believe many of them have been covered by media
reports already. The
following account is my personal impression of what I could remember
and understand based on the translation, and may not be correct!
The
Legend started with a re-cap of the dramas and movies, capturing the 3
best scenes of each one – Full House, Sandoo, A Love to Kill, I’m a
Cyborg. And then a bonus track – the kissing scenes in all the
above. Kim commented to Rain after this “It seems your skill (kissing) improves a lot as you progressed in
your acting”. To this, Rain could only reply, “I am lucky to have beautiful actresses…”
A hot topic was whether Rain has “any relationship”. From the translation I had the impression that Rain
admitted to Kim that he does. And he even asked why Kim didn’t believe him. Later we read from the
“subtitles” that Kim said Rain’s relationship is with all his fans. I leave this to those who are curious to
resolve the mystery.
There were also talks about Rain’s looks and his body. Our prince clearly enjoyed his “prince symptom”. He told Kim. “Some directors had told me that a person with a face like mine can do any role.”
The most touching part to me is the talk about Ninja Assassin. Rain told Kim: “I have watched the movie. I think the time has come for Rain to walk into Hollywood. I do not need to be humble about this, because I have put in efforts beyond my limits. I don’t know if the movie will be successful or not, but I am confident. I was worried whether it is just an action film, but having watched it I’m satisfied . When I watched my
name “Rain” appearing on the screen, I cried. I tried to hold my tears, but I cried. It’s going to be a new
level for me…..” We all know what Rain had endured in order to shoot NA. He has been holding
everything inside him, his fear, his anxiety, his emotion. Finally, at this fan meeting, having seen the movie
himself, and confident because he has done beyond his best, he wanted to share all his feelings with us!
The Legend has born!
Rain also talked about the forthcoming Japan concert. “It’s going to be very different. The theme is one of
communication with fans, of a club, a party.” Isn’t this exciting news? If you are still in doubt, it’s time to
plan how to get a ticket!
Kim told Rain that a surprise guest will appear, but even with the special voice treatment Rain has no
problem in identifying Kim Tai Woo. KTW said he wanted to tell us that Rain is a stingy man, and has only bought him dinner once. Rain’s excuse is that if he is to pay, then KTW has to call him Hyung – Elder
Brother (Korea practice is whoever’s older should pay. Rain is younger than KTW). And once Rain said
he will pay, but then told KTW he has forgotten his wallet! Joking aside, KTW was clearly very fond of his
little brother, and told us that he is very proud of Rain, who let the whole world know about Korea!!!
MC Kim stood between the huge KTW and the tall and handsome Rain, and he jokingly called KTW as
“dad” and Rain as “Mom”. It’s
heart warming to see Rain standing with his two best brothers, who
clearly are supporting and protecting him in their own ways.
KTW performed a song, and we all gave him loud applause.
There was a question and answer session. A few pre-chosen questions appeared on the screen for Rain to answer. Someone wanted to know Rain’s mobile number. Rain hesitated. Then someone shouted from the audience “Just give it to us and then change your number!” To this Rain replied “I like my number. I don’t want to change it!”
Then MC Kim suggested a telephone call role play and someone immediately volunteered. After Rain said Hi to her, she burst out “I Love You”. Rain said, “I love you too”, and she was lost for words! I believed
she must be so overwhelmed by what Rain said that her mind went blank all of a sudden.
Another fan wrote that he/she really admires Rain’s hip, and wants to know how to keep the good shape
without having to do much exercise or training. Rain
stood up and demonstrated the movement (picture him dancing Rainism and
It’s Raining where he stood sideways, moved his body and hip in S
shape).
The last question is by a fan who is a die hard supporter. She even has to quit her job in order to be able to follow Rain to attend all his concerts. She wonders if she has to do the same now. Rain said he could guess who the fan is. He wants fans to feel happy in what they are doing. And the happier the fans are, the harder he will work to make them happier. He said he also believes the fan is capable enough to get a new job very easily!
I Do was the second song Rain performed.
The last part of the evening came. A huge cake was brought out. Either Rain was hungry or he was not sure if the cake was real, so he kept scratching the cake. I was really touched when he held his hands tight and
made his birthday wish. He was so absorbed, so sincere, so concentrated that he looked like a pure and
innocent child to me. But when he took the knife to cut the cake, he held it like a knight, a ninja and his
movement was so beautiful. He is a man with immense masculine attraction but at the same time a child with purest simplicity. This is his unique quality because this is uniquely Rain.
The first gift that caught Rain’s attention was the wonderful dragon presented by Rainhk fans. He then
selected a few other items and we knew the premiere was about to end..
Rain then performed Rainism, and the last song was “My Girl”. As the show came to an end, the center
screen showed the names of all the fans attending the fan meeting. And when I saw my own name, I
suddenly feel so close to Rain, and yet again, so far away…

작사, 작곡가, 제작자와 실연자, 영화 관계자, 정부 관계자 등 저작권에 직, 간접적으로 관련된 200여 명이 저작권 강화를 위해 한 자리에 모였다. 이 자리에서는 유통 구조의 불합리한 구조, 불법 다운로드가 횡횡하는 상황 등에 대한 활발한 논의가 진행됐다.
28일 오후 2시부터 63빌딩 코스모스홀에서는 문화 콘텐츠 강국 도약을 위한 대토론회가 열렸다. 정희정 국회방송 아나운서의 사회로 진행된 이번 행사는 대통령 직속 미래기획위원회(위원장 곽승준)에서 불법복제 방지를 위한 영화인협회, 불법음원근절운동본부와 함께 국내 콘텐츠 보호 및 육성을 위해 공동 개최한 행사다.
이 자리에는 유인촌 문화부장관, 방송통신위원회 형태근 상임위원, 한나라당 정두언 의원, 함영준 청와대 비서관, 곽승준 위원장 등 관계자들이 참석했으며, 정부 관계자 뿐 아니라 비, 이승철, 2PM, 브라운아이드걸스, SG워너비, V.O.S, 2AM, 2NE1, 쥬얼리, 포미닛, 전진, 구준엽, 휘성, 케이윌, 옥주현, 다이나믹 듀오, 스윗소로우, 에픽하이, 채연, 다비치, 아이유 등 가수들 또한 대거 참석했다.
유인촌 장관은 축사에서 23일부터 바뀐 저작권법 개정안에 대해 언급하며 "저작물에 대한 인식을 바꾸는데 같이 노력해서 스스로가 자기 저작물에 대한 감시자이기도 하고, 교육자이기도 하고, 우리의 저작물이 국내뿐 아니라 해외에서도 음악이, 영상물이 보호받을 수 있는 계기가 마련됐으면 좋겠다"고 말했다.
자유토론에서는 주로 불법 다운로드를 근절하기 위한 의견들이 제기됐다. 이대희 고려대학교수는 "대한민국도 선진국이 돼 저작권법을 가지는 입장이다"고 말하고, 이번에 저작권법에 새롭게 추가된 조항은 다운로드가 아닌 업로드를 타겟팅한 것이라고 설명했다.가수 이승철 또한 토론에 참석해 앨범이 100만장 이상 팔리던 시대를 회상하며 "어느날 갑자기 디지털시대가 열리며 발목을 잡혔다. 클릭 한번으로 노력이 허사가 되고, 발표 하지도 않은 내 음악이 길거리에서 울려 퍼진다"고 토로하고 "노력이 허무하게 사라지는 환경을 바로잡아 줬으면 좋겠다. 그 환경이 주어진다면 이 나라를 빛낼 자신이 있다. 많은 사람에게 부탁한다"고 호소했다.
1인 발언에서는 저작물 유통 과정에서 불합리하게 수익이 배분되는 문제 또한 지적됐다. 가수로서 앨범도 발매한 정두언 의원은 이동통신업체가 너무나 많은 수익을 가져간다고 지적하고 자료를 공개해야 한다는 주장 또한 내놨으며, 클래지콰이 호란은 공급자의 권리 보호에 비해 소비자의 권리가 너무 비대하게 보호되고 있다고 말하는 등 여러가지 주장이 오갔다. 채연은 "어떤 걸 잘 사용할 수 있고, 활용할 수 있는지를 (법안에 대해)잘 설명하는 것 또한 많은 도움이 될 거라고 생각한다"고 말했다.
`총 맞은 것처럼`을 만든 방시혁 프로듀서는 "이제 우리가 실제 눈을 돌려야 할 것은 유료서비스다. 가치가 창출되는 유료시장에 눈을 돌리고 최소한 대화로 발전시켜 나가야 한다. 차트를 보면서 가슴 아프지 않았으면 좋겠다. 내 노래가 1위를 하는데 이익이 없으면 안되지 않냐"며 현실적인 방안을 모색해야 한다고 말했다.
다이나믹 듀오의 멤버 최자는 "우리는 한 2년 전부터 작은 회사를 운영해 앨범을 내고 있는데 사실 우리 회사로 돌아오는 이익은 거의 없다. 현상 유지가 힘든 실정이다. 음악을 표현하는 데 있어 다양성을 줄이고 있고 창작활동 자체가 소극적이 되고 있고 음악의 질 또한 떨어지게 된다. 그런 부분을 국가적으로 공정한 분배가 이뤄질 수 있도록 도움을 주셨으면 좋겠다"며 수익 분배에 대한 생각을 밝혔다.
가수 비는 "나는 어렸을 때 테이프를 사는것을 좋아했다. 5000원을 모으는 게 어찌나 힘든지. 영화 티켓을 돈을 모아서 끊었을 때는 부자가 된 느낌이었다. 디지털시대로 바뀌면서 변화가 되며 그 행복이 없어진 것 같다"고 안타까운 마음을 드러내고, "욕심 부리는 것이 아니라 무대 위에서 멋진 모습을 꾸준히 보여드리고 싶고, 여러분이 자발적으로 콘텐츠를 보호해 줬으면 좋겠다"고 당부했다.

비-이승철 등 연예인 200여명 불법 다운로드 근절 목소리 높여
최근 미디어법이 국회에서 통과되면서 강화된 저작권법으로 네티즌들의 찬반논란이 뜨거운 가운데 200여명의 연예인들이 불법 다운로드 근절을 위한 의견을 내비쳤다.
28일 오후 2시부터 서울 여의도 63빌딩 코스모스홀에서 열린 ‘문화 콘텐츠 강국 도약을 위한 대토론회’에서 불법복제 방지를 위한 영화인 협의회, 불법음반 근절운동본부와 함께 국내 콘텐츠 보호 및 육성을 위한 내용이 논의됐다.
이 자리에는 국회의원 정두언과 가수 이승철, 옥주현, 경북대학교 이장우 교수, 고려대학교 이대희 교수 등이 패널로 참석, 토론회를 진행했다.
이승철은 이 토론회에서 “24년 전 제가 데뷔했을 때는 영화관 가고 음반 가게서 데이트하는 게 즐거운 아날로그 세대였다”며 “디지털 시대가 열리면서 가수들이 발목을 잡혔다.클릭 한 번이면 창작자들이 몇날 며칠 밤 샜던 일이 다 수포로 돌아가고 인스턴트, 휴지조각처럼 창작의 가치가 짓밟히고 있다”고 말했다.
이어 이승철은 “신나게 음악하고 창작할 수 있는 환경을 만들어 대중문화를 만들어가고 이끌어가는 사람들에게 힘을 줬으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
옥주현 역시 “현재 도입된 저작권법 등은 자유로운 도둑질을 막으려는 것뿐이지 자유를 억압하려는 것이 아니다”며 “인터넷에서 음원을 불법다운 받는 이들이 ‘소장가치가 없는데 뭐 하러 음반을 사느냐’는 이야기를 한다.활동하는 사람으로서 개개인이 책임감을 갖고 소장 가치가 있는 작품을 만들어야 한다”고 가수들이 책임감을 갖고 음악을 만들어 줄 것 역시 당부했다.
이날 토론회에서는 다이나믹듀어의 최자, 채연, 2AM의 조권, 클래지콰이의 호란, 비, 작곡가 방시혁 등이 불법 다운로드에 대한 자신의 생각을 밝히는 시간도 가졌다.

28일 오후 2시부터 서울 여의도 63빌딩 코스모스홀에서 열린 ‘문화 콘텐츠 강국 도약을 위한 대토론회’에서 불법복제 방지를 위한 영화인 협의회, 불법음반 근절운동본부와 함께 국내 콘텐츠 보호 및 육성을 위한 내용이 논의됐다.
이 자리에는 국회의원 정두언과 가수 이승철, 옥주현, 경북대학교 이장우 교수, 고려대학교 이대희 교수 등이 패널로 참석, 토론회를 진행했다.
이승철은 이 토론회에서 “24년 전 제가 데뷔했을 때는 영화관 가고 음반 가게서 데이트하는 게 즐거운 아날로그 세대였다”며 “디지털 시대가 열리면서 가수들이 발목을 잡혔다.클릭 한 번이면 창작자들이 몇날 며칠 밤 샜던 일이 다 수포로 돌아가고 인스턴트, 휴지조각처럼 창작의 가치가 짓밟히고 있다”고 말했다.
이어 이승철은 “신나게 음악하고 창작할 수 있는 환경을 만들어 대중문화를 만들어가고 이끌어가는 사람들에게 힘을 줬으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
옥주현 역시 “현재 도입된 저작권법 등은 자유로운 도둑질을 막으려는 것뿐이지 자유를 억압하려는 것이 아니다”며 “인터넷에서 음원을 불법다운 받는 이들이 ‘소장가치가 없는데 뭐 하러 음반을 사느냐’는 이야기를 한다.활동하는 사람으로서 개개인이 책임감을 갖고 소장 가치가 있는 작품을 만들어야 한다”고 가수들이 책임감을 갖고 음악을 만들어 줄 것 역시 당부했다.
이날 토론회에서는 다이나믹듀어의 최자, 채연, 2AM의 조권, 클래지콰이의 호란, 비, 작곡가 방시혁 등이 불법 다운로드에 대한 자신의 생각을 밝히는 시간도 가졌다.

Rain is back in Asia.
The 27-year-old singer and actor held a global fan meeting for the first time in a year, greeting fans from all over Asia, who returned his smiles with cheers and tears.
``Hello, everyone. It's been a while and it's great to see you all,'' Rain shouted at the Grand Peace Palace at Kyunghee University, Sunday. Now a designer with his own clothing line, Six to Five, the singer was dressed in a simple black suit, a white shirt and white sneakers. He opened the event by singing ``Fresh Woman.''
The venue was packed with some 3,000 fans from Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Japan, and most looked thrilled to see their favorite singer up close.
One Japanese fan donned a pink-and-black floral kimono to show the singer the support of her home country, while a fan from Hong Kong brought an array of glow sticks and other items.
``Rain's a great singer and actor. He's totally different because he is successful at almost everything. He can sing, dance and act,'' Ventura Crispen Jr., 30, from the Philippines, told The Korea Times.
For some fans, Rain is more than just a singer, but a way of introducing Korea to the world.
``He's a Korean superstar and he's the perfect way to show some of Korea to my friends. We adore him!'' said 14-year-old Samantha Skinner, from Austin, Texas.
Sunday was actually Rain's 27th birthday, and his fans had packed part of the stage with presents before his arrival, ranging from small accessories, flowers, and cakes to artworks.
The meeting was hosted by television personality Kim Jae-dong, with various events prepared by Rain's fan club, Cloud.
Anticipating a large number of fans from other Asian countries, Rain's agency provided English subtitles on two big screens adjacent to the stage while he and Kim chatted. The subtitles were helpful, but following everything the star was saying was sometimes difficult.
When fans asked him to rate his own looks, Rain smiled and said that he was satisfied.
``When I first went out for auditions, agencies told me to go under the knife, while others told me I was too tall to become a dance singer. When I first started out, most of the great dancers were relatively short. But now, boy, am I glad I didn't do plastic surgery,'' he said laughing.
The singer has spent the past seven years wisely, appearing in television dramas, filming movies that led him to the Berlin International Film Festival, appearing in the American show ``The Colbert Report'' and, finally, launching his own clothing line.
So why does the singer keep himself so busy?
``I strongly believe that if you are afraid of failure, you will never taste success. As much as I go through failure, I think it's just one step closer to my dream. It was like when I walked into Warner Brothers and watched the final version of Ninja Assassin for the first time. I went through hard times but I finally made it. I couldn't believe I was there with my fellow actors and the staff, watching the film,'' he said.
The moment of truth will be when his Hollywood debut film hits theaters in November.
``To be frank, I didn't want to be modest in this film. I trained hard enough to consider entering a K-1 match. The movie is not just about fighting ― it has a story too, and that is why I enjoyed working on it. The movie will be the final test,'' said Rain.
Besides the movie, fans have another reason to be excited, as the singer announced plans for an Asian tour.
``In the past, my concerts were strategically designed with various sets and props, but this time I wanted to communicate with my fans. The set will look like an amusement park and there will be a part of the show when everyone will have to dance like they're at a club,'' he said.
For celebrities who depend on their popularity among fans, negative rumors and the tabloids can be a pitfall. But for Rain, they were just a means to get better.
``There are times when I really feel lonely and don't have the will to do anything. Whenever that happens, I look up negative articles about me. They give me a boost and I am up and ready for the day,'' Rain said.
Perhaps it was because he was with his fans, or maybe because it was his birthday, but the singer looked exceptionally confident and poised, joking and even answering some questions in English and Japanese.
