Superstar Rain Joins Army

Singer Rain (real name Jeong Ji Hoon, 29) greeted his fans in front of the 306 Reserve Forces in Uijeongbu on October 11 right before he entered the training camp. He will undergo basic military training for five weeks and then he will serve as a soldier. Around 1,000 fans cried in farewell to Rain, and many news reporters from home and abroad competed to cover the story. Rain said before he entered the camp to fulfill his military obligation, “I am sorry to cause this fuss around here. I will do my best in the army. Good bye.”

Rain appeared in the parking lot across the 306 Reserve Forces at around 1:10 pm in a khaki jacket and jeans. His face under a beanie was smiling all the time. He left his car and moved to the place where he was supposed to have a fan meeting. After he took off his beanie, he politely greeted his fans and news reporters and said, “I will do my best in the army.” He saluted to his fans and continued, “Thank you for your love shown to me for the past ten years.” He said goodbye to his fans. His fans had been waiting for him for more than two and half hours, but their meeting with Rain took only five minutes. Rain went back to his car and entered the training camp.  

Around 1,000 fans and news reporters gathered to see Rain. When he exited his car, all of his fans yelled out and pressed the shutter of their cameras, and around 150 news reporters competed to cover the story of his joining the army. Foreign presses such as Reuters from England and TBS from Japan proved his popularity as a world star. His fans had arrived in Uijeongbu at around 10:30 in the morning, bringing a huge picture of Rain and placards saying, “I will wait for you, Rain” and they had been waiting for him in front of the Reserve Forces. Hundreds of fans came from foreign countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and they broke into tears after the short meeting with Rain. A woman named Elphin Tan from Singapore said on the verge of tears, “I have been a huge fan of Rain for a long time. I am very sad that he is joining the Korean army.” Another fan from Japan named Yamada Misami (38) also said with tears, “I feel lonely as he enters the army, but I hope that he will finish his military obligation in a good condition after two years.” A fan named Lee Jeong Sook (58) encouraged him by saying, “He has become a world superstar after overcoming various difficult situations by himself, so I strongly believe that he can do very well in the army as well.”

Rain participated in the admission ceremony along with 2,000 new soldiers who entered the training camp at the same time, and he began his military duty, which will last for 22 months, by beginning the basic military training for eight weeks.

Rain, the renowned singer and actor, joined the Korean army Tuesday for his military service. Fans from all over the world gathered to bid him farewell.

After a long wait, world star Rain finally makes his appearance and fans cheer. He first bows and then thanks his fans for their continuous support for the past ten years since his debut.

[Soundbite] Rain (Singer): "I’m sorry to leave making such a racket. I will do my best. Thank you."

After a short farewell, Rain gives a salute to his fans who begin to cheer and yell once again. Fans cannot leave the site even after the star leaves.

More than 500 fans from abroad, including Japan, China and Hong Kong, have flocked to the site to see Rain for the last time before he joins the army to show him how much people from around the world love him.

[Soundbite] Japanese Fan : "I hope he does well during the two years. And I’ll wait to see him at his concert in Japan in two years later."

Since his debut a decade ago, Rain has risen to global stardom. Now with his name Jung Ji-hoon printed on his chest, he is now in the military and has to fulfill his service for 21 months in the army.

To the dismay of fans everywhere, Rain officially enlisted in the Korean army on October 11th. On his way to the military training camp, he filmed a video to share a final goodbye with his fans and uploaded it through YouTube under the title, 'Rain's enlistment video revealed.' The world star is seen sitting in a car, dressed casually in a hat and scarf to fit the autumn weather. Looking into the camera Rain says, "It's an hour before my enlistment. I promise to be back soon. Over the past ten years I was able to achieve a lot of things because of your support. Thank you for all the tears and laughter throughout our time together and all the many memorable moments," and ended his speech with a moving, "I love you." For his final greeting he said, "I apologize for causing such a fussy enlistment. Thank you for the ten years of love you have shown me," and finished with a shout of allegiance. Rain joined the military in Gyunggi-do, Korea on October 11th. Once he completes five weeks of basic military training, he will become an active duty soldier.

[新 휴먼로드·32]의정부 소풍길 대구간 5코스 '부용길'

도심속 여울져 흐르는 가을따라

의정부 소풍길의 대구간중 5코스인 '부용길'은 동네 뒷산을 오르는 듯 가벼운 마음으로 올라갔다 추억을 한아름 안고 오는 길이다. 부용산 능선을 따라 가다보면 어린 시절 뒷산에 널려있던 밤송이며, 정겨움을 더했던 이름 모를 들꽃에 눈이 가고, 산불감시초소와 유적지, 군대 등을 지나면서 절로 얘깃거리가 쌓여간다.

#새록새록 추억이 쌓이는 '부용길'부용길은 의정부시 고산동에 위치한 부용산 입구에서 시작된다. 306보충대까지 총연장 11.4㎞ 거리로 5시간 정도 소요된다.

인근 시민들은 평소 산책로로 이 길을 많이 이용해 평일에도 이용객들이 많은 편이다.

코스는 부용산 입구에서 산불감시초소~부용산 능선~경전철 기지창 앞~306보충대로 이어진다.

부용산 입구는 내년 완공 예정인 의정부경전철 탑석역 인근에서 가깝다. 이곳에서 도보로 10분거리에 부용산 입구가 자리하고, 의정부 만가대에서 포천 방향 가는 대로 옆 길을 따라가다 보면 입구가 나온다. 아직 정비가 되지않아 다소 초라하다 생각될 수도 있는데 길따라 텃밭 옆으로 조그맣게 난 샛길이 바로 부용산 입구로 이어지는 길이다.

샛길을 따라 들어서니 '발파주의'라는 문구가 눈에 띈다. 인근에 도로공사가 한창이라 터널을 뚫는 공사관련 발파작업이 진행중이라고 한다.

길을 나서니 발밑에 날밤이 여기저기 뒹굴고 입을 벌린 밤송이에 작지만 알이 꽉찬 밤들이 모습을 드러난다. 밤송이에 눈길이 사로잡혀 있다 고개를 들어보니 길가에 코스모스가 바람에 흔들린다. 능선을 따라 코스모스가 자리해 푸른 하늘과 대비되는 모습이 인상적이다.

부담 없이 길에 들어서는가 싶더니 다소 경사진 구간이 이어진다. 누가 설치했는지 모르지만 길을 따라 로프가 연결돼 있고, 힘이 들다 싶을 때 이것을 잡고 오르니 훨씬 수월하다.

평일에도 이용객이 많다더니 물병 하나씩을 챙겨든 탐방객들과 심심찮게 마주치게 된다.

참고로 이 길은 중간중간 휴게시설이 일정거리마다 있어 쉼터는 잘 돼 있지만 목을 축일 약수터가 없는 것이 흠이다. 간단한 산책이라도 작은 물병 하나 챙겨가는 센스를 발휘하는 것도 좋을 것이다.

길은 거의 외길이기 때문에 다른 둘레길보다 수월하지만 다소 경사가 있어 주의해야 한다.

그러나 경사가 높다 싶으면 그곳에는 계단식으로 발판이 마련돼 있고, 로프도 연결된 만큼 크게 부담을 가질 필요는 없다.

정상에 다다르자 전망대를 연상시키는 산불감시초소가 나타나고, 인근 공터에서는 탐방객들이 삼삼오오 모여 이야기 꽃을 피우고 있다.

부용산 정상 인근에는 경기도 기념물 제88호인 신숙주 선생묘(申叔舟先生墓)가 자리한다.

조선 초기의 대학자이며 문신이었던 보한재(保閑齋) 신숙주(1417∼1475) 선생은 여러 관직을 두루 거쳤으며, 세종 25년(1443)에는 통신사로 일본에 다녀오기도 했다. 세조가 즉위한 뒤 예문관대제학, 우의정, 좌의정을 지냈으며 예종 1년(1471)에는 영의정에 올랐다. 훈민정음을 창제하는데 참여해 큰 공을 세웠으며, 왕명으로 명나라 황찬(黃瓚)의 도움을 얻기 위해 요동을 13차례나 왕래하기도 했다고 전해진다. 뛰어난 학식과 글재주로 모두 6명의 임금을 섬기면서 국조오례의, 동국통감, 세조실록, 예종실록을 비롯한 많은 편찬사업에도 참여했다.

▲ 고도가 높지는 않지만 일부 구간이 가파르게 자리하고 있다. 그러나 발 디딤대가 있어 큰 무리없이 오를수 있다.

묘는 부인 윤씨 묘와 나란히 쌍분을 이루고 있으며, 봉분은 2기가 있다. 봉분 사이에는 1897년에 세운 묘비가 있고, 앞에는 상석과 향로석이 있다. 봉분 좌우에는 문인석 2쌍이 서 있다. 묘역 아래에는 이승소가 글을 지어 성종 8년(1477)에 세운 신도비(神道碑: 왕이나 고관 등의 평생 업적을 기리기 위해 무덤 근처 길가에 세우던 비)가 있다.

다시 부용산 능선을 따라 길을 나섰다. 길 중간중간 의정부시를 조망할 수 있는 조망권이 눈에 들어오고 먼곳을 바라보며 이런저런 생각에 잠기게 된다. 경전철기지창 앞을 지나 도심길 중간에 자리한 306보충대를 지난다.

306보충대는 지난 11일 가수 겸 연기자 비(본명 정지훈·29)가 현역으로 입대하면서 이곳에 입소해 화제가 되기도 했다. 참고로 비는 306보충대에서 사흘간 교육을 받은 뒤 별도로 지정받은 신병교육대에서 5주간의 신병훈련을 거쳐 21개월간 현역으로 복무할 예정이라고 한다.

이쯤되면 걸으면서도 자연스레 군대 얘기를 주고 받게 된다. 여자들이 싫어하는 이야기중 하나가 군대이야기라는데 여기서는 왠지 군대얘기가 정겹게 들리며 탐방에 재미를 더하는 듯하다. 당초에는 이 길을 대한민국 남자들의 추억이 담긴 306보충대길로 명명할 계획도 있었다고 하니 공감이 되는 부분이다.

부용길은 높진 않지만 일부 구간이 가파르게 느껴진다. 특히 일부 부용산 능선은 급사면으로 된 곳도 있어 걸으면서 안전에 유의해야 할 것이다.

전체적으로 볼때 단순한 코스같지만 능선에서 의정부시내를 조망할 수 있고, 인근에 신숙주선생묘 등 유적지도 자리해 생각보다 둘러볼 곳이 많다.

 

아직 둘레길 조성이 완료되지 않은 만큼 다소 불편한 점도 있으나 자연 그대로의 모습을 느끼는데는 오히려 그러한 점이 낭만을 더한다.

애국가 3절에 나오는 높고 구름없이 공활한 가을 하늘이 어디 먼곳에 있는 것은 아닌 듯하다. 부용길을 탐방하며 그러한 하늘과 만났다.

[엑스포츠뉴스=방송연예팀 김혜미 기자] 비(본명 정지훈)이 입대하기 전 팬미팅 자리에서 울먹였다.
12일 방송된 SBS '한밤의 TV 연예'에서는 비가 입대하는 현장을 취재했다. 입대현장에는 세계 각지에서 온 팬들과 취재진으로 북새통을 이루었다. 그리고 입대 전의 팬미팅을 갖기 위해 1천여 명의 팬들이 앞자리를 차지하기 위해 몸싸움을 버리는 이색 해프닝도 일어났다.

이 날 비는 짧은 머리를 하고 나타나 "여러분 안녕하세요. 와주셔서 감사합니다. 오늘 요란하게 군대에 가는 것 같아서 죄송스럽고요. 잘 다녀오도록 하겠습니다. 고맙습니다"하며 팬들을 향해 경례를 했다. 이에 팬들은 화답으로 비의 이름을 연호했고 이에 감동하여 비는 마지막 인사를 하며 울먹거렸다.

South Korean pop star Rain begins mandatory military service

Korean pop and movie star Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, joined his country’s military Tuesday, according to news reports.

“Thank you for coming. I’m sorry to make such a fuss while leaving. I’ll be back from my duties soon,” Rain told about 1,000 fans near a military base in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, the Korean Times reported.

The celebrity thanked screaming fans, managed a grin and gave them a solemn military salute before retreating into the camp. The farewell lasted five minutes, the Korean Times reported.

Rain, 29, will serve in the military for about 22 months. By law, all South Korean males must serve their country for two years by the end of the year they turn 30. Rain, who has been an international music star for about a decade, has chosen to cut it close.

Major League Baseball's Shin-Soo Choo faced a similar situation last year, narrowly avoiding compulsory military service by cashing in on a gold medal exemption offered by the government when his South Korean national team won it all at the Asia Games.

On Tuesday, hundreds of foreign journalists and fans came from as far away as Japan and Hong Kong to see Rain begin his compulsory service.

Rain, a major part of the rise in Korean pop internationally, was named one of Time Magazine's Most Influential People in the World.

He begin his movie career in 2006 with the popular Korean film “I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK.” Hollywood came calling shortly after when he was cast in 2008’s “Speed Racer.” He then went on to star in “Ninja Assassin.”

Singer and actor Rain (his real name, 'Jung Ji Hoon') enlisted in the military as an active-duty soldier on the 11th.

Rain was called into the draft 306 in Kyungkido region's Euijungbu city, being seen off by more than 1,000 fans both at home and abroad at 1:30pm on the day.

Rain shall serve in the military as an active-duty soldier for 21 months after receiving the training of new recruits at a separately specified boot camp for 5 weeks after taking advanced courses in basic military education at the draft 306 for 3 days.

Just before being called into the drafts, Rain saluted after saying farewell to his fans waiting for him at a vacant lot, "I apologize for any inconvenience this (obtrusive) farewell may cause you. I'll be back after working hard."

When they chanted his name, he made a bow with some tears in his eyes as if he was overcome with emotion, "Thank you for coming today..I'll do my best to serve in the military well." Then some of his fans were moved to tears by seeing his tears.

Rain was accompanied by his close acquaintances such as his protege "MBLAQ," popular group's member "Baekga", actor "Jung Seok Won" and more to the front of the drafts.

"Baekga" known to be like a brother to Rain ordinarily was sobbing loudly on the spot, which attracted the attention.

The venue was crowded with a massive number of his overseas fans who came from China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, and many other places as far apart as Peru, including Korean fans, having shown up carrying signs and placards since early in the morning.

Also, the day he was called into the drafts, more than 200 reporters swarmed the front of the drafts, locally and abroad.

When the venue was getting crowded as the time had come for him to be called into the drafts, police got to the scene, installed the police line, and tried to maintain order, as well as troops from the drafts.

The scene where he was being called into the drafts was transmitted live by satellite all over the country via cable channel tvN.

Two days just before entering the army, Rain spent busy days, filming CFs, attending the Pusan International Film Festival to promote movie "Flight : Close to the Sun" starring him, and giving his last performance on the Youngdong Grand Boulevard as part of the Gangnam Hanryu Festival where there were around 20,000 people on the 9th.
