Fans have long dreaded Rain‘s enlistment, though up til now, they’ve had no idea when he’d join. It’s just been revealed that he’ll be starting his mandatory military service in October!

On September 15th, a representative from Rain’s agency revealed, “Rain will be enlisting in the military this October. We plan to hold a press conference right before he enlists.”

This press conference will be for Rain’s concert in Seoul from his nationwide tour. Scheduled to be held on September 24th, Rain will discuss his feelings on joining the military, what his plans are before enlisting, and when his last broadcast on television will be. He’ll also share details about an album he’s working on with J.Y. Park.

Rain recently concluded filming for his upcoming movie ‘Emergency: Close to the Sun‘, and is currently touring Korea for his concert series, ‘The Best Show‘.

Rain will enter the military on October 11st as a serviceman in the military.

World star Rain (29, real name: Jung Jihoon) will be enlisting in the military for active duty in October. Plans and details on his enlistment will be revealed next week in a press conference.

On September 16th, Rain and his officials received a notice that called for Rain's enlistment in October for active duty in the military. The agency and entertainer will reveal their official position on the notice next week at the press conference.

Rain had previously postponed his military enlistment to star in the KBS 2TV drama "Fugitive: Plan B" last year, and has even embarked on a nationwide tour before his upcoming enlistment starting in July of this year. He has also managed to film for the movie, "Take Off: Closer to the Sun," which is set to be shown at the Pusan International Film Festival on October 6th.

World star Rain, (Jeong Ji-hoon) will join the army in October.

He will hold an official press conference next week.

According to several officials, he was notified of his national service by the Military Administration. Therefore, he will have a press conference next week.

Rain was supposed to join the army last year but applied to postpone the date and decided to go this year.

He is currently on a six-city tour all around the country and plans on having a press conference on September 24th before his concert in Seoul.

He will talk about joining the army, the last musical collaboration with Park Jin-young, and the behind story about his concerts and movies that CJ E&M is going forward with.

Rain is going over his concert stage with CJ E&M before he joins national service.

He has recently filmed a movie called "Flight: Closer to the Sun" with Sin Se-kyeong.

The movie was initially planned to be released at the Busan International Film Festival on October 6th, but another debut is being sought.

Singer/actor Rain recently shared his thoughts about his impending military enlistment.
On September 16th, J Tune Entertainment made an announcement stating, “Rain will be serving his military duties beginning in October, but there isn’t an exact date just yet.”

Rain will be serving actively in the military, but they have yet to determine where he will be placed.

Initially, it was reported that Rain would be holding a press conference on September 24th at his Seoul concert, where he was to talk about his military enlistment. However, the star personally nixed the reports on Twitter, stating, ” There is nothing incredible about enlisting in the army… Everyone is overreacting again…. When there is a confirmed date, I will personally tell everyone.  I will also be having a conference for my movie, ‘Emergency: Close to the Sun‘, not about my enlistment.”

Rain is currently busy preparing for his new album, while simultaneously touring the nation for his concert series. He will be performing his final concert on the 24th at the Seoul Olympic Park.

[미디어스] 비를 월드스타라고 부르는 것이 아직까지 민망한 사람들이 있을지도 모른다.개인적으로는 비를 월드스타라고
말하고 싶다.아시아라는 큰 지역에서 최고 스타의 대우를 받고 있는 만큼 이 정도만 돼도 월드스타라고 못할 이유가 없다.
그럼에도 월드스타라고 말하기 애매한 것은 우리가 무의식중에 문화선진국으로 여기고 있는 미국에서 스타가 아니기 때문
일 것이다.미국 시장에서 스타가 되어야 월드스타라고 말할 수 있다는 전제도 조금 우습긴 하다.

그러 나 이 전제를 두고 보면 '비'는 아직 월드스타는 아니다.미국에서 활동을 했고 나름의 좋은 성과를 얻었으나 스타는
아니기 때문이다.이런 비가 '미국'에서 스타 대접을 받는다면 확실히 '월드스타'라고 불러도 좋을 상황이 올 것이다.그리고
군입대를 통해 그런 상황이 올 개연성이 높아졌다.왜냐하면 비가 군대에 가는 것과 미국에서 스타가 되는 것 사이에는 어
떤 상관관계가 있기 때문이다.

1. 자유로운 활동

미국에서 비가 가수로 성공할 확률은 무척 낮은 것이 사실이다.동양인 남자가, 그것도 외국인이 팝시장에서 성공한다는 것은 경천동지할 일이다.결국 비가 스타가 되는 데 있어서 가장 좋은 방식은 '선배우 후가수' 방식이다.이것은 비가 아시아를 사로잡았던 당시 활용했던 시스템이기도 하다.그는 '풀하우스'를 통해서 인기를 얻고 가수활동으로 인기를 극대화시켰다.현재 한류스타들도 이 같은 방식을 많이 따른 것이 사실이다.

비의 경우 '닌자어쌔신'을 통해 헐리우드에 안착하긴 했다.MTV에서 상도 받았기 때문에 그가 영화배우로서 써먹을 데가
분명히 있다는 것은 기정사실이다.그의 아시아권 팬층을 생각하면 헐리우드 측에서도 그를 캐스팅하지 않을 이유가 없다.
문제는 헐리우드에서 제작되는 작품들이 거의 대부분 굉장히 오랜 제작기간을 들인다는 데 있다.프리프로덕션부터 촬영,
후반작업까지 적지 않은 시간이 걸린다.그런데 그 중 약 2년 동안 자리를 비워야 한다면 영화에 참여하기가 쉽지 않을 것이
다.

비가 군대를 다녀오면 이런 시간적 제약으로부터 자유로워질 것이고, 그의 영화배우로서의 활동은 더욱 원활해질 가능성
이 있다.특히 리차드기어가 한국에 와서 비에게 대형 프로젝트를 제안했는데, 결국 긴 제작 기간 중 앞의 프리프로덕션 기
간을 비가 군대에 있는 동안 보내고, 비가 전역하면 본격적으로 같이 작업하지 않겠느냐는 예측이 가능하다.

2. 강한 남자

미국도 확실히 변하고 있다.과거 미국에서 '남자스타'라고 하면 어느 정도 '마초'적이어야 했다.약하고 여성스러운 남자들
이 인기가 있긴 힘들었다.물론 드라마나 영화를 통해서 이런 캐릭터들에 이야기를 붙이고 동감을 이끌어 내는 방식으로 사
랑받은 스타들이 있긴 하지만 여전히 강한 남성에 대한 선호도는 강했다.그런데 이제는 '강한 남자'에 대한 선호도가 조금
씩은 변하고 있는 것이 사실이다.대표적인 예로 저스틴비버가 있다.물론 아직도 저스틴비버를 좋아하는 여자들을 욕하는
남자들이 있긴 하지만 어쨌든 여성들의 남성관이 조금씩 변하고 있는 것은 사실로 보인다.

그럼에도 불구하고 강한 남자는 남성성의 기본이다.그리고 미국에서는 계속 선호되고 있는 모습이기도 하다.만약 비가 군
대를 다녀왔다고 하면, 그것만으로도 어느 정도 강한 남자라는 인식을 받을 수밖에 없다.대한민국이야 모두다 군대를 가니
군대 다녀왔다고 해서 특별히 대단한 것으로 보진 않지만 외국인들의 인식은 다르다.군대를 다녀왔다고 하면 바로 이소룡
얘기 나오고 기관총 얘기 나오고 그러면서 'STRONG~~'이라고 말하는 분위기다.

강한 남성성에 대한 선호는 동양인 남자가 서양에서 성공하지 못하는 큰 이유이기도 했다.동양 남자는 상대적으로 외소하
고 상대적으로 어리게 보이기 때문이다.그런데 군대를 다녀왔다고 하면 이미지가 역전되는 현상이 발생할 수 있다.특히 비
가 주로 찍게 될 액션영화에서는 이것이 큰 이야깃거리가 될 수 있다.진짜 군대를 다녀왔기 때문에 '총'쏘는 게 다르다는
이야기를 들을 수 있기 때문이다.이미 일본이나 다른 아시아권에서는 한국 배우들의 총 쏘는 모습 자체가 다르다는 평이
있고, 그것이 군대를 다녀와서라고 말하는 사람들도 꽤 된다.

미국시장에서 가장 중요한 것이 이 남성성이라고 한다면 비의 군 입대는 확실한 장점이 된다.

3. 나라를 위해 희생한 군인에 대한 존경

미 국이 가지고 있는 특징 중 하나다.미국은 나라를 위해 목숨을 바친 군인을 존경해야 한다는 강한 사회적 의식이 존재한
다.나라를 위해 희생하는 것에 대한 가치를 매우 높게 여기는 것이다.만약 비가 미국과 우방인 한국사람이고 그가 군대에
다녀왔다고 한다면 미국인들은 '비'에게 강한 존경심을 가질 것이다.사회적으로 무의식에 뿌리박힌 인식체계가 그러하기
때문에 의도하지 않아도 그렇게 느끼게 되어 있다.

비가 군복무 중에 '미군'과 같이 작업하는 일이 한 번이라도 있다면 그의 군입대로 얻어질 미국 활동의 장점은 훨씬 더 커
질 것이다.우리가 2002년 월드컵 때 터키에게 수많은 환영과 박수를 보낸 것과 비슷하다고 보면 될 것이다.만약 이런 호의
가 무의식적으로 존재한다면 그가 하는 활동은 더욱 수월해질 것이 분명하다.

4. 단단한 지지기반

비 가 군대까지 다녀온다면, 대한민국에서 그가 갖는 지지기반은 매우 단단해질 것이다.말 그대로 '비난'할 게 없다.여러 가지 논란이 있었지만 법적으로 문제없는 것으로 나타났고(아직 정리 안 된 것도 있긴 하지만), 그 부분들을 제외하면 딱히 문제를 일으킨 것이 없으므로 국내 기반은 확실하다고 볼 수 있다.


또한 아시아권의 기반도 더욱 탄탄해질 것이다.전통적으로 아시아권에서는 유교적 가치에 따라 가족과 나라에 충성하는
것을 미덕으로 삼는다.비가 군대에 다녀온다면 이 또한 아시아권의 팬층에게 자부심을 심어주면서 더욱 단단하게 할 것이
다.

미국에서 성공하기 위해서 가장 필요한 것이 배우 활동인데, 결국 배우활동의 기반은 그의 연기력도 아니고 그의 미국에서
의 인기도 아니다.가장 중요한 기반은 홈그라운드인 한국과 아시아권에서의 인기다.왜냐하면 그의 인기가 공고해야 만든
영화를 아시아권에서 흥행시킬 가능성이 높아지는 것이고, 그 가능성이 높기 때문에 헐리우드에서 비를 고용하려는 것이
기 때문이다.아시아권의 탄탄한 기반이 그의 가장 큰 힘이자 성공의 뿌리이고, 군입대는 이 뿌리를 더욱 단단하게 해줄 것
이다.

이런 저런 이유로 '비'의 군입대는 현재 비에게 좋은 이슈임에 틀림없다.군대를 감으로 인해서 그의 활동은 더욱 날개를 펼
가능성이 높아졌다.그가 무사히 전역하고 나온다면 이후에는 진정 누구에게나 인정받는 월드스타 '비'를 보게 될 것이다.

On his Twitter on Sept. 15, Rain posted a photo along with the short caption, “After eating lunch. Today was really hot”.

In the photo, Rain is shown making a manly, charismatic pose along with his associates at work. With the street as the background, Rain and crew are shown exuding a trademark macho aura. Standing in the middle of the men, Rain has styled himself with a hat, sunglasses, and a muffler despite the suffocating heat over a simple white graphic t-shirt and jeans.

Having witnessed this photo, netizens have shown reactions such as, “Even his everyday routine is like a pictorial," “I can’t believe a photo of that quality was produced after eating lunch,” and “His friends are cool, too."

On Sept. 16, Rain announced his decision to enter the army in October, and is currently undergoing preparations for his concert tour "2011 RAIN THE BEST SHOW."
