11.13.09 Rain’s docu scores multiple noms for Asia TV Awards

A documentary about Korean superstar Rain “Hip Korea, Seoul Vibes” has been nominated in four categories at the 14th Asian Television Awards, according to his agency on Friday.

The documentary, which aired worldwide on the Discovery Channel earlier this year, was nominated in the following categories — Best Music Program, Best Infotainment Program, Best Direction and Best Cross-Platform Content, J. Tune Entertainment announced in a press release.

The program shows the past and present accomplishments of the Korean singer and actor, from his childhood upbringing to the difficult journey leading up to his success in music, television and movies.

It was produced by Singapore-based company Bang Productions, which previously made “Crossings: Jackie Chan” and is currently working on “The Dragon Wars”, through cooperation from the City of Seoul and the Korean Film Council.

The Asia Television Awards(ATA), which is considered Asia’s equivalent of the Emmys selects the best television programs that aired in the region including Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, India, Australia, and New Zealand. This year, 204 programs from 14 countries were selected for the finals, out of some 1,000 television programs that had been submitted.

The winners of the 14th Asian Television Awards will be announced at the ATA 2009 Gala Dinner in Singapore on December 3.

Rain is currently on the U.S. promotion tour for his upcoming Hollywood blockbuster “Ninja Assassin”, which opens worldwide on November 26.

Ninja Assassin NY promotional event ~ Autography party at Giant Robot

Fan account by Cuckoo @ rainlegend
via The Cloud - ratoka (2009.11.14)

Today is Black Friday the 13th and the NY weather was not good. It is very windy, cold and rainy day. However, it still has approximately 60-70 people lining up outside Giant Robot Store which is located in East Village of Manhattan. We all are waiting for Rain. He arrived around at 8:45pm. He wore dark blue jacket and black sunglasses. This is basically an autography party (which we didn't expect at first). Rain arrived and got start immediately. About 5 people at one time entering the store. The store is very small. Rain sat on a chair with a table was decorated with a lot of Ninja Assassin posters. Most of participants were American (White/Black/Korean/Chinese women and guys) and they were not Rain's fans (good news! Rain needs fresh American fans). "Hello" or "Hi" Rain would say to each people, then he signed on the poster and gave to us.  Each person would get one poster for sure.  Some of them were Rain's fans, they would prepare CD albums for Rain to sign.  He was so nice signed all of them slowly. And occasionally he handshaked with fans. My hand was iced cold when he handshaked with me. Sorry! Rain.

The entire event lasted about 45 minutes. The black big size bodyguard told all participants stepped aside before Rain left the store.  Everybody was so polite and discipline. (well, this is America) We didn't push each other. We all stepped aside and let him leave.  He jumped into his car. wow! Surprised! he took up his sunglasses and lowered the car windows.  He even told the driver turned the interior light on.  We could see Rain clearly.  He waved and said "Good Bye" loudly to us.

It was a happy Black Friday. In the event, Rain smiled lovely and occasionally held conversation with participants such as spelling their names...A,B,C. He was so cute when he spoke English.

Rain Interview Bi say he wants a Sexy Girl and is fit like Bruce Lee in Ninja Assassin Korean 비

AsiaFinest was able to get an exclusive one on one interview with Korean superstar Rain. The interview took place at The London hotel in New York City. In our interview, Rain spoke about his role in the movie Ninja Assassin. He also spoke about his ideal woman, and that he needs a girlfriend soon. Be sure to check out the pictures, video, and transcript of our interview with the international idol, Rain!

Dressed in a wooly sweater and casual jeans on a chilly day in NYC, Rain asked, “Korean?”

“No, Chinese,” I giddily replied.

While his eyes were distracted by his entourage of six in the congested room at The London, he said, “Oh, I love China.”

“Yes – Hong Kong.”

“I’ll be in Hong Kong soon, “ Rain said with a charming smirk and noticeably shorter haircut.

Despite a long day of talking to an extensive list of media outlets, Rain managed to focus on some small talk prior to the actual interview. While slouching in his red chair with his arms crossed, he did seem a bit too-cool-for-school. Although he looked more like the hot neighbor next door than a lethal killing machine in the Ninja Assassin, his presence naturally commanded attention. With this aura about him, it’s no surprise that at the tender age of 27 – he is a pop singer, dancer, model, actor, CEO and designer. Rainism is in full effect indeed.

AsiaFinest: Thank you for taking the time to talk to Asiafinest.com. We totally appreciate it. Now Ninja Assassin we saw yesterday and it was action packed. Very good.

Rain: Yea, it’s so different, you know. Different type of movie. You know – it’s going to be beyond your imagination.

AsiaFinest: Did you know martial arts before that?

Rain: You know – I learned Tae Kown Doe from when I was young. So when I was ten, so.. yeah.

AsiaFinest: Did you get hurt?

Rain: [pauses] Yes, I have lots of cuts.

AsiaFinest: Oh no…

Rain: Just a little bit. Even though everybody took care of me. I still got hurt. So, one day I pretend I broke my leg. So I said, “Oh, oh.. I can’t feel my legs.” People said, “Hey, are you okay?” “I’m just kidding…” It was fun.

AsiaFinest: When they first approached you to play the leading role, how did you feel?

Rain: I’m so excited. I’m going to be a superstar. Yeah – Ninja Assassin is very important to me.

AsiaFinest: The Wachowski brothers said, “This guy in unbelievable. He’e a natural. He’s our dream come true.” How does it feel when you have someone so established in the industry say that about you?

Rain: Umm… I couldn’t have done it without the crew. Yeah – it was a good experience. I was so excited, so happy.

AsiaFinest: Well, I’m glad you are. Now despite the scars, I could not help but notice a lot of the girls in the theater saying, “Wow,” when they see your body. How do you react when you see girls go crazy over your body?

Rain: Yeah – my character is, you know, my character’s name is Raizo. He’s very sexy. And, before this movie, you know, I had to make my body fit like Bruce Lee. I trained for 8 months, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. And I only ate chicken breast and vegetables. You know, it was hard. Second of all, I learned a lot of martial arts – tae kwon doe, kickboxing, tai chi, karate. I love it.

AsiaFinest: Now in Full House, Sang Doo! Let’s Go to School, A Love to Kill – none of the characters were like Raizo, so how does it feel to play somebody that’s totally different?

Rain: Totally, totally different, You know… [pause]. Yeah, I love my character.

AsiaFinest: Now when the film is out in theaters, I’m pretty confident that you’ll be winning a lot of hearts of the girls in America. I know that one of the questions that’s going to come up is – are you single?

Rain: Yeah – I need a girlfriend. [laughs] So… very soon!

AsiaFinest: What do you look for in a girl?

Rain: [pause] I need a sexy girl. [laughs] I’m just kidding… I love all kinds of girls.

AsiaFinest: You have a lot of fans on Asiafinest.com, is there a message that you want to give to them?

Rain: Okay. Hello everybody. Please watch Ninja Assassin. It’s a kick ass movie. You’re going to like it. Thank you.

Jung Ji Hoon, born on the 25th of June 1982 is a well known actor and singer in South Korea.. He uses his stage name, Bi (pronounced: “Bee” which means Rain in Korean), when he performs as a singer and dancer. His real name is Jung Ji Hoon, which he uses when he performs as an actor. His surname is Jung and his given name is Ji Hoon (also spelled as Ji Hun)

He discovered his passion for dancing ever since he was in the 6th grade. As a teenager, he was part of the boyband group called “fanclub” and years after the group ended, Park Jin Young (Korean producer/singer who worked with American singers Will Smith, Mase, Lil’ Kim, 3LW, Tyrese) took Bi under his wings after he auditioned for JYP entertainment and trained him for years in dancing and singing. Bi was a back-dancer for a famous Korean singer named Park Ji Yoon and Park Jin Young himself. During those training years, Bi was not at home much and would lie to his parents telling them he was gonna study in the library while in fact he went to the dance studio. He struggled financially and at times had to go without meals. Nevertheless, he continued to focus on his dance and singing even though he was anxiously waiting for his debut.

Finally in 2002 he debuted with the song “nappun namja (bad guy)” charming fans with his singing and powerful choreography. After the 1st album, he starred in the drama “Sangdoo Hakyo Gaja (sangdoo let’s go to school)”; many people were impressed by his acting skills regardless that it was his first time acting in a drama. Following the success of his debut, he came back with a new set of style in his 2nd album and hit song “how to avoid the sun”.

In 2004, he starred in another successful drama called “Full House” which has aired in other Asian countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and was one of the highest rating Korean drama which has won the hearts of many fans across Asia. His performance in Full House has won him the Best Actor Award at the KBS Acting Awards

His 3rd album “it’s raining” has been released in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and has top the foreign music charts in those countries; the album has sold more than 1 million in Asia and it is still in the process of being released in other Asian countries as well (soon to be in the Philippines). His concert called “Rainy day” which was held in Korea and Japan had concert tickets sold out on the first day. Jung Ji Hoon (Bi / Rain)

The American hip hop singer Lil’ Kim has offered Bi to work with her on her new album, the group 3LW also collaborated with Bi on their album. The Korean Pop sensation, Bi received the 2004 “KBS Daesang Award” in Korea (Daesang is the highest Korean music award) and he has won the MTV Asia Grand Slam; a series of awards in the Asian countries that broadcast MTV Asia. He won the “Favorite Artist of Korea” from the 2005 MTV Asia Aid held in Bangkok and the “Popular Asian Artist Award” from Channel [V] Thailand, he also won the “Best Buzz Asia Award” during the MTV Japan Video Music Award 2005 and in Beijing he won the “Best Korean Singer” award in the MTV-CCTV Mandarin Music Honors. He is invited to perform in the American MTV Video Music Awards 2005 held in Miami and also at the MTV Latin Video Music Awards 2005 in Mexico. Since his debut in 2002, the 23 year old has been one of the most popular Korean artists in Asia. The success he achieved through his hard work is a promise that he made to his late mother.

In 2005, Bi clinched the Best Buzz Asia from Korea at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2005. He also won the best Korean singer award 2005 at the Mandarin Music Honors in Taiwan. Having been voted as the best Asian singer by the Taiwanese media, Bi is positioning himself as one of the most admired Asian stars this year. Wherever he goes, he generates huge public interest and becomes a hot topic of conversation. His every move is monitored by the media and draws keen attention from music fans. Bi is currently on an Asian music tour which started in Seoul and will travel to Tokyo and Hong Kong. He is creating and showcasing fresh new spectacles at every single concert, and tickets are selling out quickly as a result. His first solo concert in Japan last summer, entitled "Rainy Day Japan" and held at the Tokyo International Forum, was so popular that all the tickets were sold out 30 seconds after going on sale. And the tickets for another of his concerts in Taiwan were sold out the moment they became available. Bi continues to set records in Asia. Now planning to go beyond Japan and Hong Kong, Bi will make a foray into China by giving a concert in Beijing.

Rain Bi's personality and charm sweeping Asia
The Japanese pronounce Bi as "Pi," and they also describe the singer with another term as well. During one of his concerts in Japan, Bi enthralled his fans with a powerful and masculine performance onstage. But when he chatted with fans after the concert, he surprised his fans by displaying a boyish and playful demeanor, earning him the label "Kawai," which means "cute" in Japanese. He is known as a powerful man onstage and a "cute" persona offstage. It is this characteristic that makes his fans crazy about him. Bi is famous for trying his best in whatever he does. He is arguably the best dancer in the nation, because he learned to dance onstage as a backup dancer for an already-established singer before his own debut. It is hard to define his dancing with simple words because it is a mixture of so many diverse elements. He has created a whole new style of his own by integrating diverse genres of dance over the course of his long dancing career.

Singer Park Jin-young, who heads the entertainer management company to which Bi belongs, once told a radio show that "I was always wondering whether [Bi] understood what I told him because he never replied even when I scolded him. One day I entered Bi's room, and ended up breaking into tears." Bi, who was then an aspiring singer, was poor at expressing his emotions verbally to his older colleague. But what Park discovered in Bi's room was a wall covered with "post-it" stickers. Every single sticker was filled with notes of what Park had told and advised him. Bi had written down every single piece of advice his older friend had given him, and had been doing his utmost to correct his mistakes and improve his skills.

It can be said that this latent passion for excellence is what made Bi what he is today. And Bi has great potential for further development because he always tries his best to sharpen his current skills through ceaseless practice. He is truly a believer in the saying, "Opportunity visits those who make great efforts." There is no doubt that Bi will reach beyond Asia to become a global star someday because of his enormous talent and tireless work ethic. The success he achieved through his hard work is a promise that he made to his late mother.

In 2008 he played Racer Taejo Togokahn in The Wachowski Brothers film Speed Racer. In 2009 Rain stars in the movie Ninja Assassin as the main character Raizo, which was released on November 25, 2009.

11.12.09 Jaejoong (DBSK) “Director And Senior Rain Inspired Me A Lot”

shared by: sharingyoochun@wordpress

TVXQ member Jaejoong, who challenged acting for the first time, expressed his thoughts on his acting at the preview and press conference.

At 4.30pm on the 9th, Jaejoong attended the press conference of “Heaven’s Postman”, organised by Seoul CGV, and answered the questions presented by the reporters.

Jaejoong said, “Acting and performing on stage is completely different, and I spent a lot of time trying to find the ‘feel’ of the character. So the director suggested that I try pretending that acting was a stage performance.” He also said, “After seeing how senior Rain successfully entered the drama industry, he also made a lot of improvements in his stage performances.”

Later, Jaejoong also said, “In order to portray the character well, I agonized over it. I was troubled for very long, over how to portray the unique personality of the character, and I benefited greatly from the Director’s guidance.”

Rain’s new film kicks it into high gear

Korean singer and Wachowski brothers team up a 2nd time
By Park Sun-young

Blood splatters across the screen as chains, single and double swords and throwing stars appear one after the other in a series of breathtaking action scenes from “Ninja Assassin,” the new martial arts flick directed by James McTeigue, who directed the 2005 film “V for Vendetta,” and produced by Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers, famous for the “Matrix” trilogy.
Martial arts movie lovers and Wachowski brothers fans are sure to be drawn to the film.
Koreans fans are likely to be interested in the film for another reason. The film stars Rain, the Korean pop singer who is playing his first leading role in a Hollywood movie.
The film is Rain’s second collaboration with the Wachowski brothers after “Speed Racer,” where he made his Hollywood debut. One of the differences here is that the brothers are now the producers, not the directors, and Rain is not in a supporting role, but the lead.
“It is always enjoyable to work with the Wachowski brothers, who both have active imaginations and the ability to create whatever they are imagining,” the 28 year old said at a packed press conference on Monday in Seoul.
Rain also spoke about how it felt to be working with a Hollywood crew for the second time as well as about the challenges of dealing with learning longer lines in English.

“In the beginning I was a little bit nervous about working in the Hollywood system, but later I found it very efficient and well-organized. It was more enjoyable than it was hard to follow,” he said. “I’ve moved up from a supporting role [in Speed Racer] to a leading role [in Ninja Assassin] and my lines have increased accordingly, which I think is natural, and it’s something I appreciate.”
In Ninja Assassin, Rain plays “Raizo,” an orphan who is raised and trained by a secret ninja clan to become a deadly assassin. But after witnessing the merciless execution of his friend, Raizo breaks with his clan and plots revenge.
“The thing the directors wanted from me the most while we were shooting was that I put my emotions into my acting rather than focusing on speaking perfect English,” the actor said.
Rain’s English-speaking ability is better than expected in this film, which could give him a better chance of success in Hollywood, and that’s seems to be where he’s headed.
“I do hope that Ninja will be a box office success because everyone involved in this movie worked so hard. But regardless of whether it succeeds or not, Ninja will always remain as a very important movie for me for the rest of my career as an actor.”
Rain’s first movie in Hollywood, Speed Racer, was not a box office hit. Still, the singer-turned-actor said he was okay with how things turned out.
“Speed Racer was not a box office hit, but I still believe that it was a milestone for me,” he said. “It was my first exposure to Hollywood, and the directors and movie people there got to know me because of the film. It opened up a lot of opportunities for me, including Ninja Assassin, so I’m quite satisfied with that.”
Whether this film will be a hit or not remains to be seen. However, as seen at a recent press screening, the film lacks a well-organized plot, which may fail to convince audiences of its appeal as a gripping story.
Still, there is enough in the film to keep audiences engaged. Rain fans in particular are likely to be taken with his scenes, where his well-sculpted physique, the result of a rigorous six-month training regimen, is on full display.
Though Rain denied that he and his character have anything in common, seeing Raizo go through intensive training to become a ninja may resonate with Rain fans, who have watched the object of their affection strive to become the best in his field.
“We felt that the pure martial arts film is a kind of a sub-genre that hasn’t really had its due in the U.S. We were always talking about doing something like taking the legend of the ninja, which dates back to the 14th century, and dropping this silent killer into a truly modern world,” producer Joel Silver said in an earlier interview, when speaking about how his team had come up with the idea for Ninja Assassin.
“I’ve always loved the genre, but it seemed like no one had made a serious ninja movie in a long time, at least not in the West,” J. Michael Straczynski, one of screenwriters, noted.
“Is it nature that makes you the person you are, or is it nurture? That is a central theme of Ninja Assassin,” director James McTeigue said. “I feel as though we did what we set out to do and made a modern-day ninja film that has incredible action but is also grounded in great characterization.”
Ninja Assassin will open in South Korea on Nov. 26, a day after its U.S. release.

[13-Nov-09][Fan acct] Said good-bye to Rain at DCA airport

via The Cloud - ratoka

Thanks to Jay at rain-usa for posting Rain's flight leaving DC. I went to see him off at DCA airport. He was wearing the same red jacket as yesterday but had a hat on. He is very nice and cute today. He checked in with his staff. While he was walking to the security check, I called him "Hi, Rain!" and gave him a cake as gift. He asked me if it was allowed on the plane and I said it should be fine. He said "Thank you!" and shook my hand with smile. Then he went to line up. While he was wating there, he asked the airport staff if the cake could pass the security check. After getting the answer "No", he turned to me and asked me if I could take the cake back. I asked "So it is not allowed? " He shook his hand and looked at the security staff saying "No, I asked them". He was really friendly while doing this, very down to earth. I just can't believe this is the same "Ninja Assassin" I watched on big screen the night before!! Then I waved goodbye to him and he said "Good Bye!" He went back in line and passed the secuirty check. He took off the red jacket and left a white striped shirt on. Then he took off his hat and shoes and passed the security check. After putting everything back and after all his staff was done they went in to the waiting area. I'm so happy that he did not have sun glasses on and he was in really good mood. I believe he has enjoyed this DC trip and is more confident and prepared for the rest of Ninja Assassin promortion. Rain , fighting!

[13-Nov-09][variety]Ninja Assassin trailer gained 17% more viewer this week

Sony's "2012" online trailer took on a tidal wave of viewer growth this week, while Summit's "New Moon" and 20th Century Fox's "Avatar" were brought back down to earth.

Disaster pic finished its run on the Visible Measures chart at No. 2 with a 167% increase to reach a final tally of over 9 million views. To put this figure into perspective, two previous box office hits -- "Transformers" and "Harry Potter" -- generated 5.9 and 7.3 million hits, respectively, in their last week before release.

With one week until release, the "Twilight" sequel dropped another 3% on top of its 25% slide from last week. Nonetheless, the pic remains at No. 1 on the chart with a robust 18.3 million views.

Also, James Cameron's 3-D sci-fi epic fell almost 50% in views to remain at No. 3 with five weeks until its release.

Warner Bros.' "Ninja Assassin" grew 17% to stay at No. 4 with more than 403,000 views, while Fox's "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" moved up from sixth place to fifth with an impressive 53% jump in views. "Ninja" is two weeks from release; "Alvin" is six weeks away.

Both Lionsgate's "Brothers" and Sony's "Planet 51" made their debuts this week on the chart. With "Brothers" at three weeks until release and "Planet 51" at only one week, the lack of interest may not bode well for their potential box office.

Also of note: With Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes" returning to the chart at No. 10, that makes three Warners pics on the chart -- the biggest representation out of any studio.

[Nov-13-2009] Rain to be interviewed with 300 media in 6cities, USA.

inter.bmp

Rain plunging into the promotion of Ninja Assassin, has carried out his strict schedule, being interviewed with more than 300 media and going around 6 cities in America.

Rain's consumed most of his spare time for his interview and movement, because he has to complete his schedule within just 2 weeks.

Rain left for Washington DC in US on the morning of the 11th and was interviewed with 50 media on the 12th, and will fly to NY on the 13th and also meet with more than 50 media on the 14th.

Under this plan, Rain'll get through with his schedule in Toronto, Miami, LA, and in San Francisco in the future, and will fly to Hong Kong for his concert in that country after warpping up all his interviews only after the 25th.

Ninja Assassin coming out upcoming 26th worldwide, which is starring Rain as the solo star, depicts an incisive and blood-drenched story about getting upsides with a ninja organization. It is expected that a lot of Rain's fans throughout Asia, including Western film fans who have shown a lot of interest in the Eastern action, wil be busy going to see the flick.

His strenuous effort is such as to say 'This is the last opportunity at my life', ahead of his movie coming soon.
He is unconventionally meeting with the local media, being accompanied only by his English teacher even without his manager.

Rain attended Ninja Assassin Asia Junket press conference in Korea last 9th before leaving for US, and met with 60 domestic media and was interviewed with more than 40 overseas media. He couldn't go to Europe due to some unavoidable circumstances in his schedule.

[Nov-13-2009] Rain’s new film kicks it into high gear.

Rain says he hopes “Ninja Assassin,”

his second Hollywood project, will be a box office success,

which he believes will open more opportunities for Asian actors in Hollywood.

Provided by Warner Bros. Korea.

By Park Sun-young

Korean singer and Wachowski brothers team up a 2nd time

26, a day after its U.S. release.

09-11-13 Rain leaving DCA airport for NY

video credit// rainslegend@youtube

[13-Nov-09][Fan acct] Said good-bye to Rain at DCA airport
