[16-Nov-12][Korea News]Rain says, “The vote for 2006 Time 100 is fake? It’s ridiculous”
Regarding the rumor that the number of votes singer Rain received for the 2006 Time 100 is fake, a spokesperson for Rain recently said, “It’s ridiculous.”
On November 16, one of the media sources reported that Rain hired a lot of people to vote for him for the 2006 Time 100 while he was having a trouble with a production agency, which was in charge of his tour of North America in 2006.
In court, Rain’s attorney asserted Rain was popular enough to be selected as one of the Time 100. However, a spokesperson for the production agency said, “That’s because he asked lots of Chinese people in the U.S. to vote for him.”
At this, a spokesperson for Rain said, “It’s ridiculous that the number of votes Rain received for the Time 100 was fake. The hundred celebrities were selected by the world-renowned magazine Time. The process of the vote was very fair, and the vote didn’t even play a decisive role in selecting the hundred people. It’s not true that Rain hired people to vote for him. It’s also strange to question the selection criteria of the world-renowned magazine.
The selection must have been done fairly. It’s ridiculous to report such a false rumor.”

[16-Nov-12][enewsworld]Sources for Rain Deny Claims That Manipulation Helped Rain be Chosen as One of ′Time′s′ 100
A source close to Rain denied claims that Rain′s being chosen as one of Time Magazine′s 100 Most Influential People was the result of manipulation.
On November 16, one media outlet had reported that "when Rain was chosen as one of Time Magazine′s 100 Most Influential People, a great number of people were mobilized purposefully for the poll."
It stated that the suspicions were first voiced in the hearing for a case between Rain′s agency and a concert agency regarding the cancellation of Rain′s 2006 world tour. When Rain′s lawyer stated, "Rain was chosen as one of Time′s Most Influential People at the time, and this shows how well-known he was in the region," a representative for the concert agency had said "that was made possible because we asked Chinese who were living in America to vote for him."
A source close to Rain′s agency told enews about the matter, "In court, the concert agency asserted that they manipulated the results for the poll, but I′ve never heard of such a thing and it doesn′t make any sense. There′s no way such an influential media outlet as Time would choose its 100 figures without checking such facts. If this was possible, anyone could be chosen as Time′s 100 Most Influential People."
Even after 2006 Rain scored strong showings in online polls, recording a no. 1 win in 2007 and landing on no. 2 in 2008. The singer is currently serving in the army as a PR agent.

[17-Nov-12][korea joongang daily]Rain’s 2006 accolade questioned
JTBC News reported yesterday that Rain’s spot on Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” from 2006 is being questioned.
The news program said an organizer responsible for Rain’s U.S. concert, which got canceled, claimed the vote was rigged.
Apparently, the claim was made in court testimony recently, as the organizer is being sued by JYP Entertainment for 4 billion won ($3.6 million) for failure to execute the 2006-7 tour as planned.
Kang, who oversaw event planning and marketing for Rain’s failed U.S. concerts, said that at the time the K-pop star was big only in Asia, “with no following at all in America or Europe.”
When an attorney for Rain countered by saying that the singer was on Time’s 100 list, Kang said, “That was because we recruited the help of Chinese fans living in the United States.”
“This wasn’t some no-name paper; the list was compiled by a leading publication,” said Rain’s agency. “How could we control that?”
