When the Energizer Bunny starts working his magic, we can barely keep up.

Today, he attended a Samsung party (at Olympic Park) and met with his beloved Clouds in Beijing. Leaving his long hair and bowl cut behind, he now sports a shorter cropped look. We also noticed that his eyebrows are neatly trimmed or threaded or tattooed or waxed. Well, he did something to it - the vain pot! ;-)

On the subject of whether Rain will be singing at the Olympics closing ceremony, J. Tune Entertainment announced that it is just a rumour.

Rain will remain in China until 24 August and will return to Korea after the summer Olympics.

비 베이징올림픽 방문 AFP 등 유력 통신사 관심, 100여개 매체 취재 열올려

월드스타 비(본명 정지훈)가 중국 베이징 올림픽에서 그 인기를 과시했다.

비는 21일 오후 1시(현지시간) 베이징 올림픽 주경기장 내 설치된 삼성홍보관을 방문했다. 앞서 비는 20일 베이징에 도착했다.

비는 이날 삼성 측에서 인터뷰를 선정한 주요 외신들과 영상 인터뷰를 진행했다. 한 관계자는 "AFP, 로이터 등 세계 유수의 통신사들과 영상 인터뷰를 진행했다. 이어 중국 현지 매체들을 대상으로 한 10여분간 기자회견을 가졌다"고 전했다. 

 

 이날 중국 매체들을 대상으로 한 기자회견에는 CCTV와 소후닷컴 등 중국 내 유력 매체와 잡지 등 100여개가 참석했다. 하지만 이날 삼성홍보관에서 진행된 비 인터뷰와 기자회견에는 국내 언론매체들은 제외됐다.

비는 현재 삼성 애니콜의 월드와이드 모델로 활동 중이다. 삼성 측은 비의 높은 인기를 반영해 중국 내 애니콜 CF모델로 기용했다. 비의 이번 베이징 방문은 올림픽 기간 중 삼성의 브랜드 인지도를 높이기 위한 전략으로 보인다.

삼성 측 관계자는 "올림픽 후반부가 되면서 다소 관심이 낮아져 비의 방문 이벤트를 마련했다"고 귀띔했다.

비의 방문 효과를 삼성홍보관에는 이날 수만명의 관람객들이 줄을 지어 찾았다.

한편 비가 삼성홍보관을 방문한 이날 하루 베이징에는 하루 종일 비가 내렸다. 가랑비에도 불구하고 비의 방문 소식에 삼성 홍보관에는 이른 시각부터 비의 팬들이 몰려 그의 인기를 실감케 했다. 비가 무대에 올라 인사말을 전한다는 소식에 1천여명의 팬들은 비의 등장을 기다렸지만 올림픽조직위원회와 공안(경찰)들이 만일의 사고를 우려, 비가 무대에 오르는 것을 막았다.

이 때문에 비는 외부 공연장이 마련된 무대에 서지 못했고 대신 공연장을 바라보는 2층 조망대에 모습을 드러내 불과 2~3분간 짤막하게 인사말을 전하는 것으로 중국 공식 일정을 마무리 지었다.

현장에 몰렸던 비 팬들은 기대에 못 미치는 비의 출연에 아쉬움을 드러냈기도 했다.

Okay, the last we heard was that J.Tune said that this was a rumor. But the Chinese media are still speculating that Rain might be singing at the closing ceremony on Sunday. Here are some summaries that I got from today:

From Apple Daily Paper (22nd Aug)
The closing ceremony on Sunday that is being headed by Jay Chou has been under wraps, including the line-ups of events. But according to this news piece, there will be a singing event involving a talented group of international stars consisting of Andy Lau (HK), Placido Domingo (Spain), Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page (both from England). Wang Li Hom, Kelly Chen Wai Lam and RAIN are set to sing a song TOGETHER.

From Eastern Daily (22nd Aug)
This piece mentioned about the rumor of RAIN singing with Wang Lee Hom and stated that both sides are still neither confirming nor denying. It does say however that RAIN will be at the closing ceremony for sure and that he will be seen appearing with HK$90,000 worth of CHAUMET jewelry and a wrist watch. (Chaumet is a high-end jeweler based in Paris)

From Ming Daily (22 Aug)
This one states that Rain has been hush-hush since his arrival to Beijing about him singing at the closing ceremony, not even raising the topic/issue. But apparently he has signed an agreement of 'secrecy' regarding this matter. It also talks about the jewelry and wrist watch that he'll be 'debuting' on the evening of the ceremony. Seems like the jewelry and watch are complimentary gifts from Chaumet (Deb's note: perhaps gifts to Rain for his probable contribution to sing at the closing? *wink* ). He will be staying in Beijing for a few days before leaving back to Korea on Monday.

['비'하인드 스토리] 폐막식 무대 비밀조항, 지켜지지 못한 까닭?

  [스포츠서울닷컴│강경윤기자] 가수 비(27·본명 정지훈)가 2008 베이징 올림픽 폐막식 무대에 오른다. 홍콩 유력지인 '명보'는 최근 "비가 24일 열리는 폐막식 무대에 대만가수 왕리홍, 홍콩 가수 천후이린, 중국의 한쉬에와 합동 공연한다"고 단독 보도했다.

올림픽 폐막식까지는 3일 남은 상황. 폐막식 무대에 관한 모든 사항은 기밀을 요한다. 그럼에도 불구 비의 폐막식 출연 소식이 홍콩 언론을 통해 미리 알려진 점은 왜 일까? 다름아닌 협찬 업체의 '설레발' 때문이었다.

비의 올림픽 폐막식 출연 소식은 명품 악세사리 브랜드 '쇼메(CHAUMET)' 측의 언급으로 인해 알려졌다. '명보'에 따르면 '쇼메'는 신문과의 인터뷰에서 비가 올림픽 폐막식에서 쇼메 브랜드 시계를 착용한다고 자랑하고 나선 것.

쇼메의 입방정으로 본의 아니게 비밀유지 조항을 지킬 수 없는 비. 어떤 반응일까. 뒤늦게 수습에 나섰지만 이미 알려질대로 알려진 터라 난처한 상황이다. 비 측은 22일 기자와의 통화에서 폐막식 출연을 묻는 기자의 질문에 묵묵부답으로 일관했다. 알아도 모른다는 것.

한편 비가 올림픽 폐막식 무대에 어떤 비중으로 오를지에 대해서는 아직 전해진 바가 없다. 비 측도 이 부분에 대해서는 철저히 함구하고 있다. 폐막식 이전까지 모든 사항을 비밀에 지킨다는 비밀유지 조항때문이다.
